Traditional Reiki has spread all over the world
Reiki is unique among healing modalities in that practitioners are initiated through a special attunement process. During this process, a Reiki master uses the power of Reiki symbols to attune the practitioner to Reiki energy. This practice has been used since the founder, Mikao Usui, attuned his first student. Although everyone has natural healing abilities, Reiki helps practitioners to improve and enhance these abilities. One aspect that sets Reiki apart from other healing arts is that, while the energy of Reiki is transmitted through the practitioner to the recipient, it does not originate from the practitioner. Once attuned, the practitioner has access to Reiki energy for their entire lifetime. Reiki also involves the use of special symbols, which serve as a method for inviting blessings and as a spiritual remedy for many ailments. The Usui Reiki method aims to change the mind and improve the body for the better.
The First Level of Reiki is designed to help us reconnect with our physical body, which is often overlooked except when we experience pain or discomfort. Our physical body is the most tangible manifestation of our soul and allows us to experience a variety of sensations and emotions. By re-establishing a connection with the physical body, we can also help balance and harmonize the body of another person, as well as their being.
Typically, the First Level of Reiki involves a series of attunements and lessons that can be completed in a few days, depending on the school and class size. Some Reiki teachers may only do the First Level attunement once if they are proficient at it. The attunement process may vary slightly between schools, but all of them are effective. Dr. Mikao Usui taught four sacred symbols to his students and attuned them to these symbols. Students learn three symbols up to Level II, and the fourth symbol is taught to Master Level students.
Once a student has been attuned to the Reiki symbols, they will remain connected to them for life. As they gain a deeper understanding of the symbols through practice, they can decide how to incorporate them into their practice and daily life. It’s important to note that Reiki symbols can only be used for positive outcomes. The Reiki Usui Ryoho system follows this principle.
The Reiki symbol known as “Sho Ku Rei” is often referred to as the symbol of power.
